Among the participants at the Teen Talk conference held on 8 November at the Belgrade Youth Centre was our geography teacher, Ivan Matejić.
During the panel, “Another brick in the wall: How to reduce the generation gap between teenagers and their parents and teachers”, the teacher proposed some constructive suggestions to teenagers from Belgrade and Serbia on how to solve these problems and prevent new ones.
Ivan Matejić: Today’s secondary students fight more for themselves
The participants at the panel discussed issues and situations relating to the generation gap that concern parents, teachers and students.
In an open discussion, the lecturers helped the attendees find a way to overcome these problems and encourage communication, and the teacher from Savremena emphasised that today, secondary students are much more open and free when it comes to stating their opinion. This makes it easier for them to overcome the gap between them and their teachers.
Current topics intrigued Savremena’s students
Savremena’s students had the opportunity to participate in all the discussions, panels and case studies. They eagerly asked numerous questions and thus showed great interest in various topics.
Peer violence, the youth’s modern role models, the virtual world and its responsibilities, as well as the knowledge required before engaging in sexual activity were the issues that attracted the attention of students and encouraged them to think and behave in a responsible manner.
