In honour of the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, the renowned English poet and dramatist, the National Theatre in Belgrade presented a selection of plays under the title In Honour of Shakespeare. Savremena’s students were part of this event on Saturday, 26 November, when they enjoyed a rendition of Romeo and Juliet, one of Shakespeare’s best-known tragedies.

Modern Shakespeare for modern students

The script for the play, performed by actors from the “Toša Jovanović“ National Theatre from Zrenjanin, has been adapted to the modern age and the entire play received a contemporary makeover. A combination of the original and the modern delighted the students who greeted the ensemble with thunderous cheers and gave the actors many rounds of applause.
