Last week, Savremena International School students had the opportunity to take part in a unique mime workshop and enjoy the „Driver du med mig” theatre adaptation of the Hensel and Gretel fairy tale, performed by Ana Stanišić, an actress from Sweden, upon which they got the chance to try their hand at mime themselves.
An exciting mix of movement and silence
Students were thrilled by the “Driver du med mig” play where silence and movement conveyed the story of the two siblings, especially enjoying mime actress Ana Stanišić’s phenomenal facial expressions and gesture combinations.
Savremena’s students experienced a new rendition of the German folk tale in which all the characters were portrayed by a single performer without the help of words, props or scenery.
Students mastering mime
After the play, Savremena’s students assumed the role of a mime themselves. With the instructions of Ana Stanišić, they learned to rely on body language and convey the message with as little words as possible.
Thrilled by the opportunity and the tricks the actress showed them, our students fully enjoyed making various gestures and facial expressions as they tried to express their physical and emotional state in order to entertain their audience.
Learning new skills through fun extracurricular activities
Savremena International School students enjoy extracurricular activities, especially when they can implement their new-found skills right away.
The performance by our guest from Sweden taught our students all about the art of mime, after which they tried it out for themselves to see first hand how complex of a process a mime artist’s preparation is, especially if they are portraying multiple characters.
