From 13 to 17 March, the students of Savremena, as well as 300 other people from various countries, got together to show their enthusiasm for improving our society during the Belgrade International Model United Nations (BIMUN).
Model UN is a simulation of the work of UN bodies, a programme which is being implemented in more than 80 countries as a means of learning about the world problems and the ways to resolve them, within the framework of the UN. Public speaking, socialising and structured debates on globally discussed issues are some of the characteristics of the simulation that presented the concept behind UN conferences to the students.
International atmosphere
International School Savremena is proud to have students such as Katarina Aleksić, Uroš Jež and Andrej Rstić, who participated in BIMUN. Good written and spoken English, and interest in international issues, are some of the qualifications that distinguished them in the application process in which our students excelled.
They also showed a great variety of interests as they chose different committees covering various topics and issues – HRC: effects of social media, GA: women’s rights, and for the Security Council Crisis committee, the topic was the nuclear war crisis. Such a range of interests is promoted at International School Savremena as the requirements of modern society.
An insight into the future
The benefits of participating in such an event are manifold. The students learnt valuable skills for their academic development, as well as those needed for future professional challenges. Argumentative speeches, communication skills, and networking opportunities proved to be highly inspirational for the students, who already have plans to continue the friendships formed during this event and start new projects together.
