School stories

Savremena International School made sure the beginning of the new school year was different and unforgettable for its students, just like it did last year.

This September, Year 11 students had a wide variety of activities to mark their first week at school: they took a tour around the Serbian capital city and saw it from another angle, participated in the Savremena Olympic Games, and the orienteering in Hyde park came as the cherry on top of the cake.

Getting to know the capital from a different angle

How well do we actually know our city?

This was the question asked by Savremena’s students when they set off on an open-top bus tour of Belgrade with their class tutors.

Although they thought they knew it well enough, now they saw it from another angle – from the top of the bus under the clear sky. The tour not only expanded the students’ knowledge of the capital and the people who breathed the soul into it, but also made the friendships among Savremena’s students stronger.

After this experience, the students shared their impressions with their Serbian language teacher, and the main topic of the lesson was Duško Radović – writer, journalist, aphorist, TV editor, and a true symbol of Belgrade.

Physical activity for a successful start of the school year

To ensure that the students step into the new school year mentally and physically fit, the teachers at Savremena International School organised the Olympic Games at Kovilovo Sports Centre.

Tug of war, three-pointer shooting, running, table tennis, ring toss – those are only some of the events that the students competed in and enjoyed. Returning from the Savremena Olympic Games, the students were full of positive impressions they kept talking about all the way back to Belgrade.

Even though only one team triumphed at the competition as such, Savremena’s students said that they would remember this day for the great time they had together.

How good are Savremena’s students at finding their way in the great outdoors?

Numerous kilometres to walk in order to reach all the points and solve the tasks at each of them, as well as the excitement of finally reaching the finish line – all of these are experiences that Savremena’s Year 11 students are sure to remember for a long time.

Last year, they learned how to use a map while hunting for treasure at Kalemegdan, and this year, they exchanged it for a compass. Each team had its emblem (bunnies, bears, bees, owls…), while measuring tapes, maps and compasses were the tools used in conquering the Hyde Park.

Although they reached the finish line exhausted, Savremena’s students were happy due to the enlivening physical activity that discovered many hidden skills they posses.

Socialising and studying in a pleasant and modern environment

After recharging their batteries with numerous activities organised by Savremena International School, the students embarked upon new school challenges.

They discovered that during the summer break they missed spending time together at school and learning with modern technologies, which is why they couldn’t wait to be back at the classrooms. The active start of the year will surely have a positive effect on the results of the new tasks that lie in store for them.
